South Florida, April 1th, 2010 /Books PR News/ -- When in Florida you can never run out of Seafood restaurant choices. South Florida has a highly diversified food culture where everybody always boasts of their healthy seafood recipes. Chef Michael Bennett's current menu represents an elite melange of our South Floridian cultures. Many current residents that live in South Florida come from Caribbean island nations, namely; Jamaica and the Virgin Islands (which are British), Cuba and Puerto Rico (Spanish), Haiti and Martinique (French). Each of these individual-istic cultures have lend its own culinary flavor to South Florida's unique dining landscape.

After returning from a four year culinary journey in the Caribbean, chef Michael Bennett utilized these culinary experiences to develop a “Caribb-ican” vibe at his current post as Executive chef. His post at the very popular Bimini Boatyard in Fort Lauder-dale has been a launching point for his first and second cookboks.
After two years working with this exceedingly visable South Florida cookery conception, chef Michael's Boatyard menu apprises diners for which Caribbean isle each recipe is dedicated to. People can choose dishes from French, Spanish and British Caribbean island namesakes. An example of this is when chef Michael pairs the familiar Gulf Grouper with an uncommon Santo Dominican twist of mango, plantain and coconut.

When it comes to food, Miami and South Florida lives up to its name as the Magic city – that is everything just seems to work here. Chef Michael explains, “we as chefs never fail to surprise people from different walks of life with our excesses in our tropical seafood cookery. There has been different forms of Caribb-ican cuisine but, this style is the most easygoing and acceptable for a broad spectrum of Americans”.

In his new cookbook, In the Land of Misfits, Pirates and Cooks, is a collection of recipes from his current position at this vital local Caribbean favorite. Author Michael Bennett compiles the best-tasting recipes from notable dining spots from around the Caribbean. Chef Michael promises a gastronomical burst of cuisine for food lovers and cooking enthusiasts alike; a salute to the Caribbeans quintessential definition of food as a celebration of life.

Posted October 27, 2009, 9:20 AM EST: Chef Michael Bennett's new cookbook tell what it is like to live and work in the Caribbean as a noteworthy chef.

His take on "Caribb-ican" cookery is a local favorite in South Florida. Big FLAVORS and healthy cooking techniques reign in this 180 page, 100+ recipe Cookbook. This is highly recommended to those of you looking for a unique way to feed your guests at your next big dinner party. Pictures and recipes are as bold as they are unique.

New Review from SouthFlorida DineMag dot com: Book Review: In the Land of Misfits, Pirates and Cooks In the Land of Misfits, Pirates and Cooks by Michael Bennett and Eileen Bennett Clark Published by The Professional Image ISBN: 978-0615297781 Mango, crab, papaya, coconut, salmon, avocado and lobster, so many wonderful delights from nature are plentiful in the Caribbean. With nature's overflowing bounty of tropical fruits, vegetables, fresh seafood and amazing spices it's no surprise that Chef/Author Michael Bennett has penned a Caribbean-style cookbook from his years of living amongst the Islands. Chef Bennett's first book is titled "In the land of Pirates, Misfits and Cooks", a first-hand "taste of living" in the Caribbean. Bennett has coined the term "Caribb-ican" a cross between Caribbean and American styles of food preparation. To excite one's palate and to experiment with new methods of cooking and innovative ingredients makes the old new again.

Chef Bennett takes the reader on playful culinary journeys throughout the many islands of the Caribbean showing you that with a little ingenuity you can bedazzle your taste buds by being tropically inspired with what Mother Nature has already given us. The recipes are easy to read, easy to follow and easy to prepare. This book was designed with simplicity in mind to appeal to the most novice of home cooks yet intrigue the experienced cook at the same time. The ingredients are readily available at your local grocery store making this exciting style of cooking accessible at a moment's notice without much plan other than having the ingredient list with you as you shop. On most pages there are sidebars that highlight cooking tips, preparation tricks and "inside information" as it pertains to healthy eating and variations on the preparation of the dish.

The photos highlight Bennett's signature style of presentation "food stacking". Bennett creates towers and rises with his food, Bennett clearly defines "playing with food", you will never just get food on a plate with Michael Bennett, you will get works of art carefully constructed. This may seem daunting to the average home cook but in true teaching style Chef Bennett explains in detail "how to play with your food", this alone is worth having the book as you become an honorary Pirate, Misfit and Cook of the Carrib-ican style of cooking. - Review by Christine Najac
